ABOUT JACOB WAXMAN

Jake V2.jpg

My journey into audio started while completing my undergraduate degree in Montreal at McGill University, where my attention was drawn to electronic music and production. I grabbed Ableton Lite and was totally hooked from there.

In 2014 I was able to get an internship at a small recording studio and post house, Audio Process, that quickly turned into a full-time job. Before I knew it I was mixing short films and commercials in Pro Tools, as well as honing my skills and knowledge of all the in’s and out’s of signal flow, processing, and audio clean-up tools.

I worked as a post production engineer and location recordist at Audio Process until 2018, when Lynx Music, the sister company to Audio Process, opened and my role transitioned to Studio and Post Production Manager. I continued recording, mixing, and coordinating all post production that came through the door at Audio Process while also managing the Lynx Music recording and rehearsals studios, gaining valuable knowledge and experience along the way.

In 2019, I mixed and composed the score for my first feature film, 17 & Life Doesn’t Wait; a feature documentary by award-winning Canadian filmmaker Maureen Judge for TVO about girls in their final year of high school, faced with entering the adult world. On this project I took care of everything audio related, including the mix, sound edit, score, and location recording. From there, I’ve worked on several other feature films, both narrative and doc, mixing in both stereo and 5.1, as well as doing sound design, foley, dialogue editing, and ADR recording along the way on various projects.

In 2021, I mixed and managed the audio post team for Neon Lights, a psychological thriller made by Red Hill Entertainment. I also worked on numerous TV shows, commercials, and shorts, including recording ADR for Netflix’s Umbrella Academy, and composing original music and sound design for several experimental animations by emerging animator Mawrgan Shaw.

Since moving to Melbourne, Australia in 2022 I've worked with a wide variety of Australia-based clients including the ABC, Raz Media, Australian Made, Indie Melbourne Productions, and many other brands, production companies, indie filmmakers, and post houses. This has included original scoring and sound design/mixing the second season of the hit indie series 'Single, Out' as well as doing sound design and mixing for the ABC short doc 'Art House'.

All the while, I’ve been tirelessly writing, producing, and releasing my own music under my last name - Waxman. Under this moniker, I’ve signed and released melodic dance and ambient music on a wide variety of international labels, including Where The Heart Is, Manual Music, ICONYC, Pure Progressive, and countless others.

Audio and music are my passions. I love meticulously poring over a mix, or losing myself in a new and exciting melody. I look forward to working together on whatever your latest project may be. Whether it’s a fast food commercial, your short passion project, or a multi-million dollar feature - your sound and music will be in good hands.
